Thunderbird is still going strong and it runs on pretty much all computers. It works with IMAP accounts. IMAP is better than POP and is worth changing to particularly if you are looking at emails on different devices at the same time. (PC, Laptop, phone, tablet...) If you want to save some of your old emails and have them available on your new computer (alongside your new IMAP emails) I am pretty sure you can create an archive in Thunderbird that can be copied to your new machine.
