Michael, on your favourite site, You Tube, there is a video showing the external fuel tank being attached to the shuttle Endeavour. As you say, there is only one bolt holding the nose of the shuttle to the ET, but that bolt is like an RSJ.It needs to be jettisoned mid flight so it needs to be a simple attachment.The ET is also secured at two points to the rear of the shuttle, and to the solid booster rockets. |
