This is an interesting article by Simon Shack, where he points out that the Space Shuttle is connected to the fuel tank at the front end by a single bolt. Could it really stand the forces imposed on it upon launch? And as Shack points out, the shuttle's wings are supposed to provide lift to enable it to glide back to earth, so this lifting force would also be acting against the single bolt. They may get away with such designs in Thunderbirds but not in reality, surely. http://cluesforum.info/viewtopic.php?f=23&t=935&start=60 |
