Sounds like the nVidia video card is shot - a common problem in the Sony all-in-one desktop machines. The trouble is, the video card is an integral part of the motherboard, and the only way to fix it is to "reflow" or "reball" the chip by heating it so that the solder melts a little and the connections are remade. A replacement motherboard would be very hard to source if the computer is more than three years old, and would probably cost a lot if you could find one. Fuselodge in Acton Lane (8994 6275) can do the reflow, but it may only buy you a few months or weeks before the fault reappears, so I'm afraid it's probably almost the end of the road for your Sony.
