Having a Siamese, they are always on the skinny side and I do get asked if he is being fed properly.  Some cats have very thick coats and look twice the size they should but if you can readily feel the ribs, they are underweight.

Most of the problem is down to the dry food and Hills is the worst.  It really is not good to leave a bowl full of biscuit down all the time, that is the road to ruin as the cat then gets into the habit of constant grazing.  The recommended amount put down twice a day should be enough
