Paul As well as Empire House, the proposals involve two new buildings, from memory six and seven storeys, that are out of character with the local area, the conservation area and the local plan. Material from the developers not surprisingly attempted to hide the visual impact of these new blocks. Along that end of the High Road there are numerous new developments of flats that have kept more in character and height. Chiswick has historically been low rise, and that character of the area is in my view worth preserving, a fact that was also recognised and supported by our current MP when I heard her speak some time ago at what was I think the first CHRAG meeting. We have lots of new flats built already, and more will be built, but we dont have to accept everything a developer proposes. Lets be clear, this is motivated by the developers to make as much money as possible, not to solve any problem. A proposal more in keeping would not have attracted widespread opposition and would now be progressing smoothly. |
