I have a Sky+ box in the downstairs living room next to the main TV, and a coax cable running from the aerial socket at the back of the Sky+ box via a Magic Eye to a second TV in the upstairs bedroom, connecting into the second TV's aerial socket. This system has worked fine for a number of years. However the old CRT analogue TV in the bedroom has given up the ghost, so I tried to replace it with a new flat-screen digital TV. This was unable to pick up a signal from the Magic Eye. When I spoke to the TV suppliers they advised that this set-up would not work with a digital-only TV and their best suggestion was to try and pick up a second-hand analogue unit. When I called Sky to ask if they had any useful suggestions for making a Magic Eye work with a digital TV they decided I needed to do a fault-check of all the connections, which I duly did to keep them happy, although from what the TV supplier had said I expected this to be a fruitless exercise, which proved to be the case. Sky suggested changing the output cable form the Sky+ box from Aerial out to RF2 out, of which the only noticeable effect was to put out the light on the Magic Eye. I had the strong impression that the Sky adviser simply did not understand the question, and in the end their best suggestion was to add another Sky box upstairs (which would be a problem as all the outputs on the satellite dish are in use). So - I have a digital TV downstairs which works when connected directly to the Sky box with a Scart cable, and an analogue TV upstairs which works when connected to the Magic Eye with a coax cable. What it currently seems I cannot have is a digital TV upstairs connected remotely via a Magic Eye to the Sky+ box. So the question is, can anybody suggest a way that it might be possible to run a digital TV upstairs from the Sky+ box downstairs ? |
