The MPG figures quoted by all car manufacturers are achieved in laboratory conditions, with tyres over inflated, panel gaps taped over and all electrical equipment disconnected. Normal road usage will NEVER achieve these levels. The software used by VW has been doctored to reduce only the nitrogen emissions, and has no effect on the cars running performance i.e. speed, MPG, acceleration etc. I understand that the UK and EU testing system is different to that in the U.S. in that test cars are taken off the production line at random. |
