My answering machine receives several blank calls per day, some with background noises which sound like a call centre. My firewall has blocked about 150 items from various Google addresses, a few junk adverts get past the spam filter, and I have received several recent dubious emails with IP addresses in Tehran, Dubai, Riyadh, Houston, St Petersburg, and Germany. My mail reader is configured to not open any mail as HTML, just show any link addresses as plain text, and I can do a "whois" or "dig" lookup if I wish. There can be an amazing amount of padding and formatting data around the viewable text in even the simplest message, and text and code is easily hidden on the HTML page by showing it as same colour as the background and/or infinitely small size.
