To Dear Alison,
This 'I'm alright Jack' attitude really is par for the course for so many people these days. We live near a major sports stadium and we expect some disruption, what we didn't expect was for the two local councils to put the RFU before their own residents for this tournament. And as has been pointed out, it isn't once every four years for us, although by and large the match day CPZ has been an amazing success allowing us to get to and fro on match days. The residents liaison committee which we used to have brought together the RFU plus residents, businesses, councillors, officers, police and transport covering both boroughs and worked very well ameliorating the worst effects of major sports events. That unfortunately was not resurrected for the duration of this RWC, but I think would have worked exceptionally well, instead we have had piecemeal arrangements and p*sspoor communication from Hounslow council. The closure of the A316 will be interesting to say the least, perhaps if it dares to affect Alison and her neighbours, which it is possible it may do, they may not feel so contemptuous of our concerns. We will just have to trust to luck that the brains that have come up with these arrangements have got it right. |
