"the route they now take is cutting almost across Kew bridge going northwards and southwards. Never used to be the case." For at least 20 years, there has been a helicopter route that follows the Thames upstream to Kew Bridge and then turns north, folowing the North Circular. I've just checked my 1992 copy of Pooley's Flight Guide, and that also shows route H2 which follows the Thames and the Brent over Brentford, then follows the M4 from Osterley to junction 4 and beyond. That eastern section of route H2 from Kew Bridge to Heathrow is no longer on the current charts. That could explain why you are experiencing more helicopters turning north than previously. I don't know when the eastern end of H2 was abolished. |
