Great news Stuart! You are helping preserve this beautiful creature. The larvae eat rotting wood (and will stay for years in the same old tree stump if it is big enough!) and the adults will eat rotting wood but they move on to nectar, leaves, flowers etc. The adults only live a few months but in that time they have found their mates and hopefully laid eggs underground (near or in rotting wood again) to start the whole cycle off again. We need more old rotting tree stumps if future generations are to see these fantastic beetles. |
