Interesting piece in the 'i' yesterday especially focussing on young Muslim girls, the point being that they are brought up in a western country but still subject to the authority of fathers, mothers, brothers and their wider community. Most are not allowed the freedoms of our young girls, and could also have a marriage arranged for them, so they are caught between two cultures. The writer reckoned they see joining ISIS as taking their freedom - can't imagine why if you read the papers, perhaps they just don't believe that it can really be what they are being told? However, I do think there is something in the theory, I wouldn't like to be told what to wear who to see etc. who would? |
