| Because he had to be seen to be independent. It means nothing at all regarding the final outcome which will almost certainly go the way of vested interests. Whether the vested interests are stronger at Gatwick or at Heathrow remains to be seen. But with all the behind-the-scenes lobbying going on from very many organisations, some of which we will never have heard of and whose lobbying and influence on ministers we will never know about, it certainly will not be an 'independent' decision if by that you mean the health and wellbeing of those affected will be taken into consideration. |
