It might have made sense long ago when people were paid in cash, but nowadays when salaries are paid into bank accounts, I really don't see why the civil servants cannot be expected to make their own arrangements to pay their dues. Perhaps the knee-jerk opposition to what seems a perfectly reasonable reform simply demonstrates that the Nasty Party and their union paymasters, after being defeated in the General Election, are not fit to run the country any more, whoever they choose as their new leader. |
