I paid for the children's DBS myself. This can only be done through an agency or some such i.e. you can not just take it upon yourself to do it. I have also signed up for the update service which costs £13.00 a year (the DBS itself costing something like £59.00). The online service means that other agencies can now have access to my DBS as long as I give them permission of course. This, of course, is a move in the right direction. The agency obviously only ticked the children's box - despite the fact that it is me who paid for it - no doubt due to an oversight or because they only deal with school age children. Why all boxes can't be ticked in the first place to get the whole thing over and done with I don't know. Suffice to say, I'm pretty fed up with the whole business - quite frankly, I've worked for about 40 years now without incident and if I ever have to have another DBS after this one - for voluntary work or whatever, I am pretty sure that I will refuse. |
