I won't go into the rigmarole I've had regarding DBS checks over the years (once holding 5 at the same time because nobody would/could accept each other's check). Once or twice I have been 'allowed' to work in schools without one just as long as I stayed in view of other adults. To be honest, with at least fifteen DBSs along the way I am quite sick of being regarded as some kind of potential paedo or threat. I am in the position right now of having a valid DBS for working with children but a local Adult College which has offered me work has said that this won't do as I have to have a check for working with over 16s i.e. vulnerable adults. This is not the College's 'fault' - just the way it works. On top of that the College told me that even the other DBS would have to be checked in case I had done anything in the meantime. At that time, the DBS in question was all of four months old. |
