My goddaughter is 16 and just about to take her GCSEs. Her family live in the North West. Her school insisted that she must attend revision lessons during the Easter holidays. They stated that if she didn't attend these lessons she would not be allowed to go to the end of term party/ball/prom, for which she had already bought a ticket, and an outfit. She wasn't able to go to these lessons because she was on holiday abroad with her family, as booked months earlier. The school were notified of this prior to Easter. She has now been told that she must attend extra lessons because she didn't attend during the Easter holidays. I cannot believe that a school can require a pupil to attend any lessons during the Easter Holiday, and can punish the pupil for non-attendance. Is this common or widespread practice? Would any teachers care to comment? |
