You're absolutely right, Stuart. That Clegg should have gone back on his word on boundary changes in a fit of pique over House of Lords reform was indicative of the man's character, as with his volte-face on student fees. His mistake there was not in changing his mind over increasing them, but his opportunistic stupidity in promising to abolish them in the first place.
