Jeff, I don't think it can be claimed that the Greens address income disparity any more credibly than the main parties. Their policies would significantly increase both heating and food costs which would have the biggest impact on those with lower incomes. Recalibrating the welfare system to compensate for that would be prohibitively expensive.

Ultimately this doesn't really matter as I don't think anybody votes for the Greens based on their social policy. My suspicion is that the Greens have failed to build on the moment of recent elections primarily for financial reasons. They have no strong party infrastructure and therefore haven't really served as a vehicle to channel local activism. If they were bringing together lots of like minded people at the local level they could be quite formidable at the national level.
