"What I do take issue with is that only people who have degrees are seen as worthy to enter Parliament" I was going to challenge that, but then I found out that John Prescott was awarded a degree at the age of 30 - which after failing the eleven-plus and doing a stint in the Merchant Navy was a commendable achievement. I wonder how many current Labour MPs do not have degrees ? On the other hand, there is at least one Conservative MP, your bete noire Ian Duncan Smith, who does not have a recognised degree - but then, you regard his army service as not being a proper job, don't you ? Do you rate all degrees as academic ? A science, engineering or medical degree has plenty of useful non-academic skills involved. Now, if you concentrated your fire on those who have a PPE degree, which usually indicates they were proto-politicians first and real-world working people second, you might have a case. Step forward Messrs Cameron and Milibean Minor...... |
