To be an MP all you need to do is get a bunch of people to vote for you, no training required, so I don't think it's necessary to compare their salaries to highly trained people like head teachers and GPs or nurses(!). And anyway, many people don't actually respect career politicians for good reasons. And besides, if you want a career in politics you don't want to become an MP and have your job prospects determined by a selection committee and a bunch of unpredictable voters. It beats me, you get to be an MP and demand high salaries for your hard work - and then tell other people that their job is a vocation and therefore doesn't deserve even a living wage. |
