Claudia, The 'Street Scene Design Guide' isn't particularly easy to find, but it is still on the HounslowHighways.org website. Go to the 'Roads And Footpaths' page, and you will see the 'Street Scene Design Guide' as one of the green sub-menus. It is an engaging shopping list of examples of all the wondrous features that were promised by Vinci Ringway in their seduction of the LBofH commissioners in pursuit of the £350m, 25-year PFI. Entertain your children and friends by seeing how many you can actually spot on the streets of Hounslow, and after you've done that, go to page 64, where you will see just the lamp (or 'lantern' as they call it) designed to replace those of a similar design. http://www.hounslowhighways.org/storage/downloads/1360859123_Hounslow%20Street%20Scene%20Design%20Guide.pdf Here's what it says about the new lamp: "Lighting Style 3 – HERITAGE (Precinct & Alternatives or similar) Precinct is an example of an up to date design based on a traditional Victorian style that lends itself for application in a multitude of landscapes and environments. Precinct uses modern reflector technology with lamp sources up to 150W from the proven Arc series of road lanterns that lend themselves to applications where mounting heights range from 3.5 to 7 metres. Alternative heritage designs are also available to suit different historic styles and features. At lighting upgrade schemes within ‘Areas of Distinctiveness’ " Nowhere does it show you it in situ or in proportion to a lighting column, so you can't judge what it will actually look like on the street. That is also true with the 'Stela' design, where our first proper sight of it was it being installed in the same holes as the previous lamp standards, but often at much greater heights as in Park Road. (I note where the blurb says 'Alternative heritage designs are also available...' We've never seen any). Suffice to say that the lighting initiative has not seen the replacement of the previous warm sodium glow with a 'like for like' solution, whether or not you are in favour of the change. |
