Anyhow, getting back on topic... No offence to the people who may now have lost money or access from Ms. Horlick's "crowd pleasing... er, funding" venture, but if this latest episode is anything to go by, Horlick really does appear shamelessly conceited - perhaps from reading her own publicity? In order to understand the difficulties of making money out of a new restaurant venture - especially of the "celebrity/vanity type - one only needs to read the excellent 'Kitchen Confidential' by Anthony Bourdain. Perhaps Ms. Horlick didn't read it, or take any outside professional advice before opening her own effort in Barnes. Which is fair enough, I suppose - it was her money after all. But in failing miserably with that attempt, she must have learned something of the hazards of the trade. Therefore to start again with other peoples' money, then pull the rug from under their feet when she couldn't even manage the most basic element of the project i.e. premises, is very shabby behaviour (imo). Of course, she is offering to refund any "investors" who want it - a legal obligation, I imagine - but that will hardly compensate them for the loss of the use of their money while she was faffing around on CHR. Or for being jerked around generally. |
