Sam This sounds like the UK offshoot of the Brazilian Igreja Universal do Reino de Deus. Have nothing to do with them. The people on the doorstep may be genuine, deluded evangelical types, but the church is a money-making machine for its founder, the self-styled "Bishop" Edir Macedo. He is one of the richest men in Brazil, owns the second largest Brazilian TV network and exploits the poorest in society. He has been accused of charlatanism and money-laundering, and is, I believe, wanted by the US authorities for fraud. |
