| Brian, I agree entirely with what you say about Pakistan's mediaeval attitudes, though I think the term 'mediaeval' is a bit of an understatement - the murderous Sunni/Shi'ite schism seems to go back about 1300 years and is at the root of much of the violence and barbarity which plagues the Middle East. The point I was making was simply that some of the young people of that benighted country seem to reject its primitive and misogynistic culture with a courage that I find admirable. But taken as a whole, Pakistan seems to be a basket case, and, given its possession of nuclear weapons, a serious danger to the rest of the world. |
