| Concur with other posts - one of the problems with Frontline ceasing to be sold on prescription is that use became more widespread and it is now becoming less effective as fleas build up an immunity. Do not waste your money buying non-prescription products from pet shops. They are cheaper and far less effective. They may rid your cat of an initial infestation but do nothing to control the environment or break the lifecycle of the parasite. You will need to use an environmental product and an effective VPOM on your cat because, by the time that you see fleas, you will indeed have an infestation that may even lead to your cat developing an allergic reaction to the flea saliva (FAD). Controlling fleas is not cheap, but making false economies will only lead to more expense later. Bear in mind that if you have central heating, you will probably need to treat your cat on a monthly basis throughout the winter. Carpets and cracks between floor boards make ideal homes for flea larvae and the combination of heating and the vibrations caused by walking will attract the adults out to bite and reproduce. It is also important to wash bedding on a hot wash. |
