Example of why Politicians / Councillors / Civil Servants should NEVER be allowed to commit OUR MONEY to complex contracts: In 2007, our Government signed a £750m contract with Raytheon to build the "Trailblazing" border control systems. As always, the whole thing was a total disaster, it ran years behind schedule, it didn't work, and the costs ballooned. This is what happens every time. So earlier this year, the government decided to cancel the project. But Raytheon then pointed out that the contract was watertight, and they were not allowed to cancel it. They had signed this right away, because they had no idea what they were doing. And so now we have to pay Raytheon a £224m cancellation penalty because of incompetent contract diligence. This is our money they are throwing away. We work hard, they take it off us, and they waste it like this. |
