Double height racks or at least covered cycling bays were originally considered but they would have involved building fairly substantial structures on the common. Give the low response to the consultation I would guess Council Officers didn't feel they had a mandate for a proposal that would have been controversial when people saw what was being done. The best way to encourage more cycling in this particular area would to be to create a short pedestrian/cycle tunnel under the embankment linking Chiswick Back Common and Acton Green. |
