Jim, no, our headmaster was Mr Johnson.And if I remember correctly, with the shops in Fauconberg road, a trip to the high road was not necessary as these shops had everything you needed.There was the hardware store on the corner, then the bakers followed by the butchers then the chemist and the cobblers.Next was the newsagent and Staggs the greengrocer.Next to that was Hawkins grocers.Next to that was the sweet shop then the United Dairy and the dry cleaners.The Bedlington cafe was there along with the bookies, the wet fish shop, the laundrette and the off licence at the end.This is as I remember the shops.I may have missed or duplicated some sites, but they had everything you could possibly need |
