Yes ...agree with Tom. That's how it was pronounced by everyone in the 1940's whether you were scruffy or posh.

Andy: Was Mrs Dean your Headmistress? She was my landlady for a time in the 60's.

I must say the Fauconberg Road shops were all respectable with the proprietors seemingly  in the Chiswick Chamber of Commerce. Must dig out the Handbook!
