This study http://www.migrationobservatory.ox.ac.uk/briefings/labour-market-effects-immigration finds that immigration has no measurable effect on unemployment, so the 'coming over here, taking our jobs' argument appears flaky. It does say that immigration has an effect on wages, with lower paid workers losing out a little and middle and higher earners gaining a little so the overall effect is neutral. |
