Impressive spin performance by Sam Hearn in that article, essentially saying "It was a great idea when we suggested it but now that the other guys are implementing it it's a terrible idea". Sorry Andy, I think if anyone is spinning this "story" it is you. The Conservative Group are fully behind the move to modern, more compact premises and have been for some years. A new Civic Centre Project would have been just the shot in the arm that the construction industry and the local economy needed in 2009/10 but now pretty much the whole of Greater London is experiencing something of a building boom .... The existing building is too large for current needs, too expensive to heat, light and ventilate and is in need of massive expenditure on essential refurbishment. All of this has been known for years. Hence our exasperation when the Labour Group spent £4m extending the Civic Centre in 2005/6 and our astonishment at the £250k recently spent refurbishing the Councillors toilets. You really cannot make this stuff up or "spin it". The facts speak for themselves. |
