Once again have to quibble with the description of Hounslow being dead centre of the borough. It is easy to drive to for any resident even in the Western and Eastern extremities because of the A4 but it is a huge pain to get to on public transport for a lot of people. A new civic centre on the Golden Mile - particularly if the Hounslow - Southall line is put into operation would be much more accessible. The London Plan shouldn't be an obstacle as a coach and horses was driven through it when it was time to consider the Brentford Stadium development. The alternative site in Hounslow itself seems less than ideal as it would lose the Council a lot of revenue from car parking and would be bad for business in the town where there are already complaints about businesses being hit by lack of car parking space. If the Council is really serious about regenerating the Golden Mile what better way to show that than moving there? |
