The Express Tavern by Kew Bridge is owned by the same people as the Sussex Arms in Twickenham. I ate at the Express Tavern the week after it opened and didn't think the food was up to the same level as a typical Fullers pub but it was its first week so I would give them a second chance for the food anyway. I wish the Express well but once Fullers open their new riverside pub across the road it may struggle, I fear. The Fullers pub will have better food (unless the Express ups its game) and a better location. I think a pub that focusses on traditional beers will mainly appeal to, lets face it, older blokes. That may not be enough to sustain the business. To have a broader appeal, particularly for women, I think, there needs to be a better quality menu than bog standard pub food and a decent wine selection as well. Brewdog in Shepherds Bush is a pub that focusses on beer and every time I have been there it has been totally mobbed with mainly 20-30 somethings. However they market themselves as a modern craft beer pub so is more appealing to younger punters than a somewhat fogey-ish CAMRA-style pub. |
