Hi Vanessa - I know that you have confessed on this website to not being very good with numbers but can you please just ask yourself where all the tax money ultimately come from?

All of it comes either directly or indirectly from the productive part of the economy that actually produces a surplus that can then be taxed.

If the productive part of the economy cannot carry the heavy load of taxes placed upon it then the whole real economy will collapse like a failed soufflé. Visit France if you do not believe me.

The alternative is to borrow on a massive scale (as we as a nation have done and are doing) but again there is a limit too how much you can borrow as a Sovereign state before interest rates rise and eventually the interest burden on the national debt exceeds the tax raising powers of the Government.
