The evolving comments underneath the petition (bit.ly/sos-trees) definitely represent the full gamut of opinion. But consensus does seem to be crystallizing in one respect: everyone appears to agree that if we allow six trees to be destroyed, the Council should plant six more in the park.

These may be in the gaps left by those felled, or along the north edge. And probably not poplars. But no-one wants to see the tree count in the local area down by half a dozen, period.

It will be interesting to learn of the Council's response to this next week, particularly as some who have 'read between the lines' consider this tree-cutting exercise to be a cost-cutting exercise at heart.
