|The evolving comments underneath the petition (bit.ly/sos-trees) definitely represent the full gamut of opinion. But consensus does seem to be crystallizing in one respect: everyone appears to agree that if we allow six trees to be destroyed, the Council should plant six more in the park.|
These may be in the gaps left by those felled, or along the north edge. And probably not poplars. But no-one wants to see the tree count in the local area down by half a dozen, period.
It will be interesting to learn of the Council's response to this next week, particularly as some who have 'read between the lines' consider this tree-cutting exercise to be a cost-cutting exercise at heart.
