The kennel club reckons there are about 10.5 million dogs in the UK.

There are about 2,000 registered training centres, and between them they have issued about 500,000 certificates (in total, not last year) to trained dogs.

So let's assume that those numbers go back 5 years (it's probably much more than that), that's 100,000 dogs trained every year. That's about 1% of the total dog population.

Let's assume that the kennel club numbers only represent 10% of all the training courses and schemes in the UK (generous). That would imply that maybe 1,000,000 dogs are trained every year. That would mean that less than 10% of UK dogs go through any training.

Either way, the vast majority of dog owners do not regularly train their dogs.
