If gyms did not insist on taking a full year's subscription from all new members they would ALL be insolvent by their first March. Something like 75% of new members sign up (usually for a year) in the first week of January and then pack it in after 8-10 weeks. If it was easy to simply cancel membership payment at that point, all gyms would be bust by end March as they would have no money coming in. That's why they do it, it's the only model that works. As always, follow the money and you get the answer. |
