28k a year for rented accommodation is over £2000 a month. You can rent a very nice property for one person or a couple for that amount - probably be a bit pinched for a family, but many 'ordinary' people come from elsewhere to work in London for the week, then return to their families at weekends, and even if they get some sort of accommodation allowance, it's probably nowhere near £2000 a month in most cases (and let's not forget all the travel allowances and expenses your average MP is able to pick up from the gravy train for not much more than a 3-day week). So please, let's not all be made to feel guilty about the impoverished lives MPs from elsewhere have to endure in London in order to represent their constituents. |
