I have no problem with MPs being properly paid and I disagree with Vanessa that they should not get expenses - they should get reasonable rent/hotel allowances for staying/living away from home and an allowance for a constituency office - say £60K for two members of staff plus office expenses. They should not employ family members and be required to demonstrate that staffers are employed and paid. What is completely unacceptable in this case is that this character was paid £50K pa by Circle Healthcare whilst arguing for Circle (and others) to carve up the NHS. This was not even declared at the time and IMO is corrupt beyond apologies: he should have been kicked out of the House never mind promoted to minister. At least Boris is honest about his 'chickenfeed' £250K from the Daily Telegraph, which is something of a first for him (being honest) though his description of it proves he inhabits another planet from most of us. |
