My interest in sport of any kind is almost nil, and the dread announcement of 'a great summer of sport' on the media makes me despair. Disruption to schedules, wall-to-wall coverage, rampant chauvinism, over-excited commentaries, endless analysis of performance - it's all too much. As someone posted here, if a 'great summer of opera/ballet/theatre'were announced. there would be howls from most of the population. My regret is that BBC4 is filling its schedule with repeats of repeats. Admittedly, we get a couple of Prom concerts per week, but would it break the budget to beam in some of the numerous Continental relays of performances, perhaps of works unfamiliar to UK music lovers? |
