| On 28/07 at 16.55, Andy Wright posted a thread on this Forum entitled: "Ifti... percentages and numbers". This made the claim that whilst the Muslim population of the UK is just under 5%, the prison population of the UK is 27%. As "evidence", he cited a website calling itself "Muslim Statistics". Exactly one minute later, Mr. Wright made exactly the same post on ActonW3, and again on BrentfordTW8 one minute later. I don't know whether many people will actually have looked at this "Muslim Statistics" website, but even a cursory glance will reveal that it is rabidly bigoted, racist and (obviously) Islamophobic. (It is notable that its Author(s) does not actually identify him/herself, nor is there any clue to Identity/Address on the "Contact" page.) In any case, Mr. Wright blithely repeats the 27% UK figure from a Muslim Statistics Headline: "UK: Muslim prison population doubles in a decade to 27%." Yet if you scroll down to the bottom of the article, the next article is entitled: "Calls for inquiry as figures show 27% of London’s prisoners are Muslim". So the "UK Prison = 27% Muslim" claim is entirely bogus. Instead, it refers to the London prison population, without pointing out that London has over three times as many Muslims as the rest of the UK, percentage-wise. All of which would be bad enough, were it not for the fact that I posted an article from the Independent which revealed that the true percentage of Muslims in UK jails is just about half that which Mr. Wright claims (14%): http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/number-of-muslims-in-prison-doubles-in-decade-to-12000-9222237.html And here's the thing. Even when his error (lie actually) has been pointed out, Mr. Wright plainly lacks the basic integrity even to acknowledge it, never mind correct it. In that respect, he shows himself and Ifti Ahmad merely to be the two sides of the same racist coin. Ironic, isn't it? P.S. Many of the bogus claims made on the "Muslim Statistics" website are repeated on (taken from?) a scurrilous YouTube website called "Muslim Demographics".
