Topic: Shifting Cycleway 9 to the pavement

My first take on these proposals is that they are probably making the best of a bad job even though it is laughable to describe them as a safety measure.

Most cyclists will ignore the proposed cycleway route and stay on the High Road approaching the Heathfield Road from the east or west. Those approaching from the south may find it helps to use the new pavement bit by turn onto it in front of the Lamb but, other than that, most people using it will be less confident cyclists, who will pose very little threat to the relatively small number of pedestrians in this area.

The interesting thing here is why it is being forced through so quickly without proper consultation. The likely reason is the continued drop in bus speeds on the High Road - can't think what else would have prompted this sudden change.
