It seems to me that commercial landlords/the local authority (which also owns commercial premises in the area) are piggy-backing on the ludicrous and escalating house prices being promoted in the area by a growing list of estate agents. ....viz "A long lease on the site, which is just under 3,000 square feet, is being marketed by May & Company for £50,000, with an annual rent of £77,000, a £4,000 service charge and business rates on top. The owner of the Italians blamed 'economic conditions' for the decision to close the branch." A house in my street recently went on the market for £4.25 million ... yes, you read that correctly. It took a long time to sell it and the Sold notice has been up for weeks. So presumably, whoever has bought it, is in no hurry to move in, albeit the property has cost them squillions!
