| The interesting thing about Steve Taylor still banging on about Joe Biden having dementia is that it is another demonstration of his view that he has a right to his own facts. As with his view that London is collapsing into anarchy, he seems to pick up these false narratives from somewhere and hang on to them like a dog with a bone. Nothing you can say to him will ever persuade him to change his mind or even add a bit of nuance to his existing beliefs. Joe Biden gave an interview earlier this month. He is quite frail and it is sometimes difficult to make out what he is saying but he did communicate a quiet anger about what was going on in the world in a lucid and powerful way. He also appears regularly in clips on social media by members of the public who have encountered him in shops and ice cream parlours with his grandchildren and two Secret Service agents. He chats and jokes with strangers and gives zero indication of any serious mental impairment beyond that you would expect for a man of his age. The videos (which are not distributed by him or and PR organisation) show he is greeted with a lot of affection and he in turn is willing to give his time to regular people and exchange a few words. However, sadly he is very ill. He has been diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer and is probably taking the chance to spend as much time as possible that remains with him. His medical condition is all in the public domain and there is no mention of a clinical diagnosis of dementia. That he isn’t being shielded from unmanaged interactions with the public at the moment would be to any reasonable person clinch the argument that he doesn’t have the disease. As with the ‘London is Falling’ lie, nothing anyone can say will persuade Steve Taylor to change his mind – believe me I tried. He outright refused to watch a clip of a news conference I posted in which Biden gave complex answers to questions from the press for over 45 minutes. His cult-like commitment to MAGA narratives is sadly all too common in this country and if someone could tell me why people end up like this I’d be very grateful. The good news is that you will never meet him in the queue for Frankie's. |
