Yes, social media and algorithms are used to whip up hysteria when we wouldn't have heard about so many crimes so often as on rolling news.  Crimes you think may be local turn out so often to be somewhere in the US!  A desperate attempt to whip up readership!

We should also be looking at the disruption that is caused here by those with poor mental health, alcohol and other problems and the fact that the police and other services are often called in and have to spend hours dealing with these emergencies.
