| This is going back sometime but I remembered someone who lived on Thornton Avenue telling me that the local residents' group had persuaded London Underground to slow the Piccadilly line trains going through Turnham Green at night. This was to allow them to pass without sounding a warning signal which was waking people up. Don't know if this still applies but if the trains can be slowed to save people's sleep they could be slowed to save lives. At the risk of being on the wrong end of a barbed comment from Michael Robinson, my own experience of years of travelling on this line is the same as Jeremy's i.e. that Piccadilly line trains are more likely to go through Turnham Green at full speed at less busy times. The explanation he provides about why this might happen is the most convincing I've heard up to now. |
