Indeed.  I just checked and Hammersmith to Kings Cross via H&C line is given as 2 mins faster than via Piccadilly line.

OK, you will lose those minutes transferring to H&C station but H&C has bigger & newer trains, air conditioning, almost guaranteed seat.  The new Piccadilly line trains will be better but probably still not guaranteed a seat.

H&C is pretty handy for Euston as well with a short walk from Euston Square.
