“TV Licensing officers cannot force entry into your home in the UK without a search warrant: No automatic right of entry TV Licensing officers do not have the right to enter your home without a search warrant. Request entry TV Licensing officers can request entry and visit your home to assess if you need a TV license. Search warrant If an officer suspects a breach of license law and you refuse entry, they can apply for a search warrant from a magistrate or sheriff. Refuse entry You have the right to refuse entry to TV Licensing officers without a search warrant. Conduct visit at the door If you deny entry, the officer can conduct the visit at the door and must leave if you ask them to. Use detection equipment If you refuse entry, TV Licensing may use detection equipment to find if there is TV-receiving equipment in your home. You should not be pressured to answer questions, sign documents, or allow entry without a search warrant. If you do consent to entry, you should have a legal representative present. It is an offense to intentionally obstruct a person exercising a search warrant. TV Licensing will be accompanied by the police when executing a search warrant. “ |
